Sometimes lighting and audio effects alone can not create a desired
mood or feeling for a part of a production. Sometimes something a
little more spectacular or out-of-the-ordinary is desired. In these
cases, special effects can be used.

There are many types of special effects with a wide range of
complexities and costs. This chapter will, by no means, cover all
types of special effects, but will instead discuss some of the more
common ones.
