8 Results and Analysis

 

To facilitate the testing of XUDP, three log files were written by the XUDP server itself to record, at twenty millisecond intervals bytes of data acknowledged, round trip time and the sliding window size (packets in network). For comparison tests between TCP and XUDP, a fourth log file was maintained by the testing application on the receiver side that recorded parcel sequence numbers received and the time that each reached the application layer.

Each test is documented both in graphical form and as a table of statistics. Comparisons between sets of data are drawn where applicable. All data was transmitted across the same piece of 10base-2 Ethernet between two Digital Alphas running OSF/1 V3.2.
